Background
IG Shopping tags needed to scale. Early on, they had only shipped to a select few brands in an alpha. They could only be used on photos, they weren’t performing super well, and they diverged from both organic and ads formats. We needed a system that could work across photos, videos, stories, and with people tags. Only allowing businesses and creators to tag products also limited what people could shop.
Unifying the system for feed posts let people find and shop tagged and related products more easily.
Product Stickers for stories was a natural evolution based on brand usage. But 24hr media added more challenges.
We let anyone tag products, which added massive scale and helped brands feature better content on their product pages.
